Fat transfer to the face vs injectable fillers. Visit our New York grafting surgeons in NYC and LI for a fat injections consultation.Often referred to as a “liquid facelift”, injectable treatments have become a very popular alternative to facelift surgery for instant facial rejuvenation.

At Advanced Cosmetic Surgery of New York, many of our patients don’t know whether to go with fillers or with fat transfer to the face. A consultation with a specialist in our fat transfer NYC or Long Island centers can help you determine which would be best.

Pros and Cons of Injectable Fillers

Both face fat transfer and injectable fillers are non-surgical, non-invasive, more affordable alternatives to facelift surgery.

Both can restore a more youthful, smoother facial appearance by filling in hollows of an aging face and restoring lost volume and reducing wrinkles.

Injectable fillers take only minutes to perform and results are usually immediate. There are few bothersome side effects, primarily minor redness, bruising or tingling that usually resolves quickly.

On the downside, injectable fillers do carry some risk, though much less than surgery. Allergic reactions can occur and bumps or an uneven texture may result when improperly injected.

Perhaps the biggest drawback is that the results of injectable fillers are only temporary and treatment must be repeated in order to maintain the effect.

Pros and Cons of Fat Transfer to the Face

Fat transfer to the face, eyes, lips, and cheeks is more involved than fillers because the patient’s fat must be harvested from another area of the body, such as the abdomen or thighs, though fat transfer is still less invasive than facelift surgery.

While fat injections are more costly than fillers, they may be worth serious consideration for those who can afford the cost. Fat is a better choice over injectable fillers for filling larger defects, it is generally safe with no risk of allergic reaction, and results are very natural and long lasting.

Results from fat injections show that about 75% of the grafted fat remains in the face after three months. Fat can also be used for cheek injections, lip enhancement injections, and for creases around the eyes, as well as deep wrinkles in the forehead or nasolabial folds.
