Where the last twenty or more years saw many women visiting cosmetic surgeons for breast augmentation, we are now seeing an increase in the number of Brazilian butt lift surgeries in the U.S. – to the tune of a 38% spike from 2010 to 2011 alone.
In our practices, we have seen that cosmetic enhancement of the buttocks has proven highly successful at achieving optimal results and restoring patients’ confidence in their figures.
Implants or Fat Transfer to the Buttocks?
Fat transfer to the buttocks, also known as the Brazilian Butt Lift, is the only option for cosmetically reshaping the booty. It seems to be at the top of the list for a few reasons.
Although patients may opt for silicone butt implants (which we do not do in our practices), which are similar to breast implants, this procedure may not produce the kind of ultra-natural results that are possible with a buttocks fat transfer that comes with a Brazilian Butt lift.
Comparing the Brazilian butt lift to butt implants, the Brazilian lift offers the best results with the most natural look and feel. This is due to the fact that the fat transfer procedure, performed in our own butt lift NY facilities in Long Island, begins with the removal and purification of the patient’s own body fat.
Using tumescent liposuction techniques and fat transfer, the surgeon extracts fat and naturally-occurring stem cells from areas such as the abdomen, hips, or thighs; resulting in better contours in those areas as well. Fat is then purified and injected into the buttocks to create perkier, firmer, and fuller contours.
Due to the nature of this procedure, it is viewed as the least invasive and most natural buttock augmentation option. There is no need for incisions, only small punctures for the tiny liposuction cannula and fat injection sites.
The liposuction procedure requires very little down time for recovery (about 3 days), as incisions are miniscule and don’t even require stitches. Additional benefit comes from the fact that buttock enhancements are made using the patient’s own body fat, which eliminates the risk of rejection or irritation from a foreign butt implant.
Factors Affecting Longevity After Fat Transfer to the Buttocks
Since we are talking about the booty (and enhancement involving natural body fat), there are certain additional factors that are likely to affect overall results. Initially, there is the issue of partial re-absorption of the transferred fat, which is a given with any fat transfer surgery.
In order to achieve optimal results, the plastic surgeon will accommodate for this occurrence by injecting more fat than what is necessary at first. In doing this, the desired results become possible after re-absorption takes place. About 75% of the fat injected to the site will remain permanently after the three month mark.
Over time, the results achieved with the Brazilian Butt Lift may be affected by fluctuations in weight as well as personal habits. Exercise is always beneficial to body contours, and natural butt augmentation patients may benefit especially from regular exercise focused on maintaining muscle tone in this area.
